Re: Carving ponies in stone

OK, here's my latest.  It has actually been done since summer, but it took me forever to get the base made and then mount it, and to take pictures.

This one is, appropriately enough, Maud Pie looking at a rock.  The stone is silvercloud alabaster, which was actually a great rock to work with as it had no imperfections and chipped pretty much exactly how I wanted it to with the chisel.  Just the rock part is about 5.25" tall, 4" wide, and 9" long, and weighs about 6 pounds, down from 25 pounds which was the weight of the original rock I started from.

And here are some WIP pictures that I took as I was working on it.

Re: Carving ponies in stone

I decided to try something a little different and try my hand at some lapidary work, so this is a Trixie pendant made from lapis lazuli.

Have not really done much work in stone before. Usually do wood working. But that is pretty cool looking.
